When you are looking for information on literally anything, what do you do? You Google it! The same holds true for educators everywhere who use Google to find their next classroom resource. We get it, search engine optimization (SEO) can be intimidating. Our friend at BLOQQ, Paul Skirbe, who is an SEO expert, knows that SEO can be tough, “Don't be intimidated by SEO. It can seem daunting with all of the fancy jargon like ‘meta-data’ and ‘topic clustering’ but it boils down to the 3 C's: Code, Content, and Credibility.”
Let’s break it down with our top SEO tips.
Identify keywords
Pick primary and secondary keywords that identify your product. For example, BLOQQ provides “consulting for edtech startups”. So, our primary keyword would be just that! But, we also provide “marketing strategy” and “sales strategy”. These are the keywords you need throughout your site.
Page Titles and Meta-descriptions
Once you identify your targeted keywords, you need to put them everywhere - even the spots that you don’t see (that makes sense, of course). Including your keywords in your page titles is necessary to improving search results, and writing engaging copy in your meta-descriptions will help ensure people will actually click! Skirbe added, “SEO wants to make sure your website code is easy for search engines to find.”
Consistent content
With SEO, it's all about being consistent! Writing consistent content on your blog with your keywords will ensure you are continually and your audience will see your site in their search results.
Optimizing your images
Optimizing your images can be something people often leave behind when optimizing their website. Updating your file names to correct titles, using alt-tags, and making your images mobile-friendly will ensure your website comes up in search results and looks visually appealing!
SEO is an important aspect of your marketing strategy, at the end of the day - don’t forget what the pros (and Paul) say - “No matter what new SEO concepts or tactics are introduced, the job of SEO stays the same -to continuously improve on the 3 Cs.”
