How to determine which EdTech conference is right for you?

With literally hundreds of EdTech conferences happening around the globe every year, it can be overwhelming for a new start-up to determine which conferences will be the most beneficial to their growth. Deciding which conferences to attend is absolutely critical in order to maximize the ROI of your conference attendance.

Target the correct audience

Ensure that your target audience will be in attendance - you can always ask the exhibiting crew for a prospectus for extra insurance! For example, if you are a math EdTech organization - exhibiting at NCTM could be a great idea, but the ASCA conference will not make the most sense for your goals.

Ensure the costs fit in your budget

There are so many EdTech conferences - for an early-stage startup, you cannot possibly attend them all. Nonetheless, you need to map out the ones that are most aligned with your goals. There are many costs that come with attending a conference: travel, booth supplies, registration fee, wifi, exhibiting fee - and yes, even electricity and carpet. Make a plan to keep yourself on track.

National vs. State Conferences

National conferences will require more resources than state conferences. For a start-up, it can make sense to target conferences in the vicinity of your user base. However, being at national conferences like ISTE and FETC will set the foundation for brand awareness and get you in front of larger markets and more decision-makers.

Do you need to exhibit?

While exhibiting is always preferable, we understand that start-ups can have tight budgets. What can you do instead? You can walk the conference floor, schedule meetings for coffee, and talk to attendees 1:1 about who you are and how you solve their problems. Many conferences have virtual options that might make sense for your budget. You also can plan events, like a happy hour, to entertain your potential prospects without having to shell out the fees to exhibit.
